Directions/Assistance with applying online:

- DUE TO THE LARGE VOULME OF PERMITS SUBMITTED DAILY, ALL APPLICATIONS THAT ARE SUBMITTED INCOMPLETE WILL BE RETURNED.

PLEASE READ BELOW FOR ASSISTANCE:

- For first time use, please click the blue sign up button and register with your email and create a password for your specific login.  You will not need an access code to sign up for the online permitting portal, and leaving this part blank is okay.

- The permitting software will only allow you to apply for a permit using your parcel number, not your address.  You can find your parcel number at the McDowell GIS website, here is the link to that website McDowell County NC WebGIS 

- For step by step illustrated instructions for signing up, finding your parcel number, applying for a permit, paying for a permit, or scheduling inspections online, please visit mcdowellgov.com > Departments > Building Inspections

- Once you have submitted your application, due to an increase in permitting, please allow 2 weeks for permits to be processed. Please note we do not process permits on holidays, weekends, or after business hours.

- You do not have a valid permit until your permit has been paid for.

- For septic tank, well, and restaurant inspections questions, please contact Environmental Health.  Their number is 828-652-2921 ext 300

- We can not process any permits that are located within the city limits of Marion, NC.  Please contact the City of Marion for your city permitting needs.  Their number is 828-652-3551

- There are multiple lines coming into the office. If you call and do not get an answer, please send an email to buildinginspections@mcdowellgov.com
